How to Get Something That Fell Down the Drain
That stress-inducing moment when one of your beloved items falls down the drain is tough. We’ve all been there at some point, but don’t worry! All is not lost. Most items that fall down the drain can easily be retrieved!
Here are some tips to recover your items lost to the sink drain.
1. Turn off the Faucet
If there’s running water in your sink, turn it off as soon as you drop anything down the drain. The water could possibly take smaller items further down the drain, making it harder to retrieve them.
2. Use a Magnet
If the item you dropped is metallic, you can use a magnet to pull it up. There are magnets that come on an extendable rod that you can place down your drain to recover your item.
Jewelry items like real gold and silver may not contain metal, so you may need another tool to get it back. However, if the gold or silver is plated over metal, then you should be able to use a magnet!
3. Use a Grabber
Other items that don’t contain metal can be retrieved with a grabber tool! These are perfect for small items like toys, hair tools, toothbrushes (yes, toothbrushes can be dropped down larger drains), and other non-metallic objects. A grabber with prongs or claws is ideal for grabbing items. They’re also helpful in grabbing chunks of clogged hair down your drain!
4. Call a Plumber
Not every method will be perfect for retrieving lost items in drains, however, calling in a plumbing expert will almost certainly be the best option! If your items are lost down the drain, give Green Planet Plumbing & Sewer, LLC a call at (206) 207-7625, and we’ll be more than happy to help!
